Pursing the New Year By Faith

Steve Seller, President of Cru, the parent organization of Jesus Film Project shared this with our staff this week and I wanted to pass it on.

As we begin a New Year, I am pondering our Lord’s invitation: to walk by faith. Hebrews chapter 11 tells us the stories of some who walked by faith.

By faith, Noah …

By faith, Abraham …

By faith, Isaac …

By faith, Moses …

Recently, I considered how I would finish the sentence “By faith, Steve …”

By faith, Steve responded to God’s call to join Cru as a staff member.

By faith, Steve followed the Lord’s leading into different roles.

By faith, Steve faced challenges within his leadership journey.

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6, NASB1995). It is faith that pleases God. Whatever role we’re in, whatever circumstances we find ourselves in, whatever stage of life we’re in, it is our faith that pleases Him.

What would your “by faith” sentences be?

Hebrews 12:1-2 is a great encouragement: “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (NASB1995).

The men and women listed in Hebrews 11 are the “cloud of witnesses,” along with others we know who have gone before us, who inspire us to run our race now with endurance and faith.

Your faith to trust the Lord for the fulfillment of the Great Commission — often in very hard circumstances — is a great encouragement… Fixing our eyes on Jesus, may we run our race with perseverance. May we continue to please God by our faith.

I can’t wait to see what the Lord will do through you and our entire global movement in 2024.

Where in 2024 could you take a bold step(s) of faith in the power of the Holy Spirit?

How might you positively impact others, making their lives better this year? How might you even do that for people around the world?
