Recently learned about an upcoming outreach and wanted to share about it with you.
‘Go North Missions’ is a student missions project held by our Ghana ministry in response to the urgent need to reach Northern Ghana with the good news. This is a project which mobilizes, equips, and deploys Christian students and volunteers to share the gospel, train believers in evangelism and discipleship, and strengthens churches.
From August 21 to September 15 about 150 students and volunteer missionaries will go to the areas of Damongo (Savannah Region of Ghana), Sandema, the Kantosi tribes (Upper East), and Anufo (North East Region). These groups are classified unreached peoples by Joshua Project, “people groups with less than 2% of the population who are Evangelical Christians.” The Cru Ghana ministry partners with the local Council of Churches to help reach these areas.
Most people in this region depend upon subsistence farming and live in mud-brick, thatched-roof homes. With low family incomes, children often work in the fields instead of going to school. Poverty is widespread, with severe shortages of water, food, and jobs. The literacy rate is below 10%. Over half the population identifies as Muslim, with a small Christian minority, and traditional religious practices are common. Because of the low literacy rate, sharing the gospel through films and oral communication is crucial for effective evangelism and discipleship. The team will live among the people and minister to them directly, sharing in their daily lives and challenges.
Mission Objectives:
1. Open doors by providing for essential needs like plowing lands for planting, supplying seeds, food, medicine, clothing, etc.
2. Train churches and some third level students within the localities to effectively share the good news of Christ.
3. Expose 7,500 people to the gospel through the Jesus Film resources, one-on-one and group (schools and other affinity groups) conversations and presentations.
4. Premier our “Walking with Jesus” film in the Gonja language.
5. Follow up with potentially 1,000 people.
