The 2003 Christmas comedy, Elf, a popular family favorite, stars Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf. As a child in an orphanage, one Christmas Eve, Buddy mistakenly crawls into Santa’s toy bag and ends up at the North Pole. There he is raised as an elf, but Buddy is not able to do as elves must do. Eventually, he is demoted to the demeaning job of “toy tester.”
Years later, as an adult Buddy discovers that he really is a human. So, Buddy heads out to New York City in the hope of finding his Dad. As he begins his search amongst the unfamiliar streets, he spreads Christmas goodwill to busy, unsuspecting New Yorkers. Ultimately, upon finding his true dad, Buddy is accepted and invited into his home to become part of his human family.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will. Ephesians 1:3-5
Today many of us are searching for our true identity, the truth of our existence or purpose. Much like Buddy, we long to know our real Father. This holiday season, let us be drawn deeper into relationship with our Heavenly Father, reconnect with our families and friends and spread Christmas goodwill, which in turn will help others to know that God continues to invite us back to be part of His family!
