Since Saturday March 1, our thoughts to some degree have likely been directed towards the Middle East. But today I have a brief story from another part of the world where two religions also collide. It’s illustration of the power of our great God and His transforming the hearts and lives of one family!
“Maryam*, a woman living in a South Asian village, faced many hardships in her life. Her husband had abandoned her, and one of her sons had died—leaving Maryam to care for his children. For eight years she attended a church that taught false doctrines. All of these difficulties she had experienced caused her to feel mentally and physically exhausted—lacking true peace.
But Maryam’s youngest son, a ministry worker with The Timothy Initiative*—a partner ministry of Jesus Film Project®—persistently shared the story of Christ with her. He even organized a showing of the JESUS film in her home. She was intrigued and convicted by what she heard in the film, and she rededicated her life to Christ!
After watching, Maryam’s life changed dramatically. God restored her mental and physical health, and she received an audio Bible to help her mature in her faith. Seeing how God was transforming Maryam’s life, one of her other sons—as well as his wife—trusted in Jesus too.
Maryam also started a house fellowship group, providing a place where her family members and neighbors could grow in Christ together and encourage one another to extend the reach of the gospel of peace.”
