A Skeptic of Rapid Multiplication Sees God Multiply Generations

Here’s a report that shows God at work during the global pandemic. In-person ministry was restricted, so God uses a new way to equip and mobilizing a leader and network, to reach many more people with the gospel.

Denpo* was a Buddhist-background believer in Southeast Asia who became a Jesus Film Project® worker and then a pastor. In January 2020 he attended training offered by our church-focused division of Cru (GCM) for online outreach.

The goal of this training is to see 12 generations of disciples involving one million believers. Their hope is that these million people will be able to evangelize the whole country. Pastor Denpo said, “In the beginning I was not able to believe in rapid multiplication, but the Holy Spirit has been guiding me to see the results.”

Pastor Denpo has been meeting 15 first-generation leaders online, coaching them to lead their own groups. He has five generations in these groups, involving 21,659 people. By the end of November 2020, they had shared the gospel with another 25,515 people; 2,435 of them gave their lives to Christ.  *name changed for security.

Given all the challenges of 2020, including the local culture and religious barriers, God took this leader’s limited faith (not unlike Jesus’s disciples) and multiple it like the “loaves and fishes” (Mark 6:35-42). As I reflect on this report, I have to ask myself, how did I see God multiple his work in and through me, and how will I go forward in faith in the months ahead? What about you?
