Stories from partner ministries come in regularly telling of how God is working. Josh Newell, our Executive Director, was at an event recently and a woman came up to him after he spoke to share about her “JESUS” film showing story on a mission trip with another ministry in Zambia. It was an outdoor showing, with hundreds in the audience and many committed their lives to Christ including a prominent witch doctor.
Here is Josh’s retelling of the woman’s story:
“And, of course, the village had a huge response. In particular, there was a lady witch who performs many demonic rituals… She was the known witch for the area.
“She also came to Christ, but she wouldn’t go back into her home. When they asked her why she wouldn’t go back, she said, ‘Because everything that I had put inside that house has been consecrated to evil spirits and to the devil. And if I walk back in there, then I’m afraid that I’ll be overcome. So, we need to burn down my house!’
It took some convincing, but everybody saw that that was a good thing, and they burned down her house with all her possessions inside of it, and built her a new one, a fresh, clean house!”
Josh went on to say, “The lady who shared this story with me was so overcome by the Jesus film, how it has this kind of effect, and well beyond [just] showing a movie.”
“We all have amazing Jesus Film stories or have heard them. This was another fresh example of life transformation, of what happens when the light comes into the darkness.”
“People’s lives change. And literally, their hearts are swept clean, and in comes Jesus.”
“It’s a wonderful example of a physical reality matching the spiritual reality. That’s what you’re involved in, that’s what you’re a part of, that’s what you make happen…”

Upon reflecting on this story, I have to ask myself , would I burn down my home to ensure the removal the idols and all the other things that keep me from fully loving and following Jesus? Something to ponder…
