Since civil war erupted in Sudan in April 2023, more than 1.3 million people have fled to South Sudan. The majority are women and children escaping the horrors of war. Globally this is now the third worst refugee crisis, following Ukraine and Syria. These displaced people are in camps and villages along the border and around cities. It’s created not just a major humanitarian challenge, but also an open door for the gospel with people who only know the dominant religion of their former homeland. Jesus Film and partner teams have taken “JESUS” and the good news to these unreached people.
Here’s an example* of how God is working:
“Ministry team members visited a village near the capital city of South Sudan to show the “JESUS” film. They set up the screen for a film showing which 100 villagers attended. When the film ended there was silence. Then a local pastor spoke to the villagers about Christ’s love, and 17 of them decided to follow Him. The decision they made led to formation of a church in the village.
That was just the beginning! Feeling a strong sense of purpose, the new believers began to share their faith in nearby villages and invited more and more people to join their growing church. The once quiet village has become a lively place of hope and faith, demonstrating how one special film under the stars can really make a difference in the world, one person at a time.”
